Avid has announced a browser-based version of Media Composer for Chrome as part of an expanded partnership with Google Cloud. The new version operates within Avid Content Core, the company’s content-data platform, alongside new Gemini Enterprise and BigQuery integrations.
Avid says the browser workflow will include its Ready to Edit capabilities, which use natural-language prompts for tasks including syncing media, transcribing and aligning dialogue, and organizing project bins. An embedded Gemini panel is also intended to let editors search for B-roll and stock footage, and add tagging, logging or translation using existing Gemini accounts.
The broader Content Core update focuses on media discovery and production data. According to the companies, Content Core can generate transcripts and semantic descriptions as media is imported, allowing users to search archives in natural language. Content Core Insights combines Gemini Enterprise and BigQuery for queries around production operations and content performance.
For hybrid deployments, Avid’s Content Core Site Engine is designed to link a customer’s Google Cloud environment with Content Core while keeping high-resolution media and compute resources in the customer’s own cloud environment.
Avid and Google Cloud are demonstrating the new workflows at IBC2026 in Amsterdam, running September 11–14.
