MAP Audio’s new plugin and standalone processor uses four routable effect cells, with the company describing serial, parallel and feedback patching within one insert.
MAP Audio has launched MFX, a modular multi-effects processor for macOS and Windows, available as both a plugin and standalone application. MAP Audio also offers what it describes as a limited in-browser demo.
MAP Audio describes MFX as a four-cell routing environment in which effects can be patched in serial, parallel or feedback configurations. The company says each virtual connection has its own level control, a design that can place multi-stage effect networks and their routing levels inside one processor.
For feedback patches, MAP Audio says each feedback cable adds a fixed 64-sample delay regardless of DAW buffer size, before any further delay introduced by effects within the loop. Depending on the patch and return level, the company says, loops can fade, sustain or self-oscillate.
MAP Audio also lists six global LFOs, per-cell followers and a parameter sequencer for patch-wide movement. A follower can use its own audio, another cell or the stereo sidechain input as its source, according to the company. Controls from across a patch can be assigned to three Combo knobs, which MAP Audio says hosts can automate alongside effect parameters and global mix.
MAP Audio lists MFX in VST3, AU, CLAP and standalone formats, with AAX support for Pro Tools on macOS; Linux 64-bit support is listed for VST3, CLAP and standalone use. The company also lists stereo input, stereo sidechain input and stereo output, plus MIDI input for vocoder-carrier use and MIDI learn. Sonic State reported an initial launch price of $80; MAP Audio lists a perpetual license with activation on up to three machines and included updates.
